In a world where community safety concerns are rapidly evolving, relying on reactive, post-incident measures is no longer sufficient. As an online affiliate I advocate for proactive violence prevention, I specialize in transforming community environments from vulnerable to resilient.
My approach goes beyond simply satisfying compliance requirements; it focuses on fostering a 'culture of safety' where every community is empowered to identify, report, and prevent violence before it happens.

The Gypsy Tymes: Illuminations
By AnnaShea Downey
Some words were written when I finally gave myself permission to put what was in my head onto paper. Others became my way of cheering people forward while finding my own way, too.
Through poetry, faith, personal reflection, and a call for proactive awareness, these pages speak to the person who has carried too much—and still wants to build something better for themselves, their family, and their community.
This pocketbook also offers a glimpse into my forthcoming Never Neverland, where the conversation about crisis, rehabilitation, and prevention continues.
A small book with a strong voice—and a place here on the Wagon.

Proactive Violence & Crime Prevention Awareness
Educate • Prevent • Rehabilitate • Empower
BE THE CHANGE.
The Gypsy Tymes represents my mission to encourage conversations about proactive violence prevention, education, rehabilitation, accountability, and creating safer communities before another tragedy happens.
These aren't just shirts to me. They represent something I have worked to build — a small business with a bigger purpose.
BURY THE VIOLENCE. PROTECT THE LIVING.
I’m AnnaShea Downey, and I created this “R.I.P. Violence” shirt to put my message into something people can wear—and something our communities need to hear.
As a mother and grandmother, I want our families to experience a quality of life that includes safety, peace, and a real chance to thrive.
Getting used to violence does not mean it has stopped affecting us.
The brain and body respond to danger to help us survive. After trauma, some people remain on guard even when the immediate danger has passed. Sleep, concentration, mood, and relationships can suffer. Some develop PTSD; others respond differently. These are human responses to trauma—not signs of weakness.
For children, prolonged adversity can create toxic stress that affects brain development and the body’s stress-response system. What children repeatedly experience matters. Safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments help protect their health and development.
That is why I keep speaking about QUALITY OF LIFE. Our brains need opportunities to learn, rest, connect, and recover. Our children deserve places where they can play and grow without fear. Adults deserve that safety, too.
“It happens everywhere” is no standard to live by. SAFE STREETS MUST BE THE STANDARD.
My shirt calls for prevention, accountability, and protecting our children. That means early intervention, credible education, access to qualified rehabilitation and trauma care, and leaders who follow through on public safety.
I created this design because I want us to bury the violence—and protect the people still here building their lives.
Follow AnnaShea’s Online Gypsy Wagon and The Gypsy Tymes for this design and more.
Wear the message. Speak up for prevention. Demand a better standard.

✨ THE COUNTDOWN TO NEVER NEVER-LAND
Launching 11/11/2026
By AnnaShea Downey
The old fan is still turning.
I watch it here in the house Mr. Pine built, and I picture them preparing to leave McComb in 1932—packing their belongings, saying goodbye to family, and talking about the life waiting for them in Meridian, Mississippi.
I imagine Mrs. Anna Bell “Mimi” Pine saying goodbye to her siblings. The energy. The plans. The promise of a new beginning.
Mr. Eugene Pine had accepted a master mechanic position with the railroad. He, Mimi, and their daughter, Mildred, were heading toward an opportunity.
They could not have known everything they would endure.
In my mind, a train whistle sounds across Meridian.
They lived on Fifth Street at first, settling into work and making plans. By 1935, Mr. Pine had finished building the house that would become home to generations of our family.
He built with materials purchased at auctions, giving old pieces another working life. The original sink came from the railroad station. Some of those old fan motors still work today.
As I understand his vision, buying at auction and rebuilding were connected to something larger: putting resources to use, supporting renewal, and helping Meridian become the place he believed it could be.
The stories passed down to me include ice cream shared across racial divisions, work opportunities for Black people, and efforts to improve farming and economic conditions.
There was beauty here. There was potential. They wanted to help it grow.
Alongside those efforts came accounts of hostility and retaliation.
Then came the collision—and the explanation we were given afterward.
We were told Mildred had been drinking and driving. Years later, investigative reporters whose identities I cannot disclose shared information with me that challenged that story.
According to what they told me, Mildred and Mr. Pine were traveling to a meeting in downtown Meridian with Black and white farmers to discuss improvements in farming and economic opportunity. The reporters described a collision on the passenger side and attributed it to white supremacists. That account, including the allegation about who was responsible, comes from what those reporters conveyed to me.
Mr. Pine suffered head trauma and later died in 1956, in this house.
In the room where I sleep.
I never got to meet him. But his work surrounds me.
It was Mildred and her husband, Ed, who adopted my mother, Nancy, in 1948. This house held their lives alongside those of Eugene and Mimi. Later, my brother and I lived here, too, during the periods between our mother’s marriages and other changes in her life.
We became the children entering rooms where the adults were whispering—or arguing—until someone noticed us.
Be quiet. The children are here.
A conversation stopped. A question went unanswered. Years later, I would still be trying to understand.
Never Never-Land follows those questions through generations.
My family and I are part of these pages, alongside others whose experiences reveal how widely these struggles can reach. Some call it a generational curse. I wanted to examine the patterns beneath that phrase—and what people can learn to interrupt them.
I write about experiences I understood as targeting, beginning when I was ten, and later events that changed my sense of safety.
In 2011, a crisis doctor from outside Mississippi entered my life. In our conversations, he asked questions about the problems he encountered here, alongside the beauty and possibility he could also see.
When he asked me why, I told him:
“I guess my divine purpose is to help you discover why.”
Then came 2012.
I began listening more closely to my son and others as they described concerns about drugs, trafficking, violence, and people they feared. I could no longer assume that goodwill alone would keep us safe. The questions before us reached beyond racism into other forms of harm, exploitation, and silence.
I learned proactive information and approaches to recognizing danger, seeking support, and making safety-conscious decisions. I helped my son and others leave circumstances we believed were dangerous.
Those experiences helped shape my first manuscript, Blue Ink and Navy Blue Nail Polish: The Subconscious Tipper.
I wanted to share information that might help people act before a crisis deepened.
Then that manuscript disappeared from my computer while I was helping someone facing domestic violence. I believed the loss was connected to the intimidation I was experiencing. After losing the work and enduring that period of my life, I did not want to begin again.
Then Norman Dyce Jones comes to Meridian.
Within the book’s storyline, Norman is an investigative reporter carrying an account of his own: reporting suspected child trafficking and facing retaliation for speaking up.
There are things about 1989 he does not readily explain.
He has spent a long time seeking other people’s stories—listening for experiences that have gone unheard. Then he finds my social media writing about proactive information.
What catches his attention is the work behind it: the years of questions, observations, and lessons shared between the doctor, others, and me.
Norman wants to understand what people can learn before another family faces the same danger.
He had lived in Meridian during the early to mid-1980s. Our paths crossed when I was a child, around eight, nine, or ten. Something about him feels familiar, but I cannot quite place it.
Now he is here, asking about the house. About the people who lived in it. About the conversations that stopped when we entered the room.
He wants to help bring the story back to the page—and bring its proactive information to people who might need it.
Some of his questions sound as though he has been waiting years to ask them.
Norman has not told me everything.
Over the years, my children, others, and I have put our own work into rebuilding this house. I still hope to finish. Contractors who have seen it have expressed amazement at how sturdy it remains.
And the old fan keeps turning.
Never Never-Land brings together generations of stories, difficult questions, and the beautiful potential so many people saw in Meridian, Mississippi. It reaches beyond our city into concerns about violence throughout our nation—and the need to engage before another family suffers.
The book also shares proactive information about how we speak on social media and within our communities: how to challenge excuses, redirect conversations toward prevention, demand accountability, and insist on meaningful public safety and a better quality of life.
Our voices should carry clear expectations:
Protect our families. Take threats seriously. Support early intervention. Make safety the standard. Follow through.
We need informed community involvement and qualified crisis-prevention teams—and leaders who turn those demands into concrete action.
Who needs protection? What information should we take seriously? Who can help? What can we do before the next crisis?
Hope needs people willing to learn and act.
The old fan is still turning.
The work is not finished.
